Cooking can be good without spices, but spices add a whole new level of flavor and health, and with the wide range of spices, you can add something to every dish you make!
I love experimenting with the different flavors with different dishes.
Here’s some of my favorite tasty and healthy spices:
1. Onion Powder
Extremely versatile, you can add onion powder to just about any savory dish you make. Soup, casseroles, fried or scrambled eggs, literally we add it to like all our cooking– unless we add fresh onion. It goes well with most everything savory.
2. Garlic Powder
Like onion powder, we use garlic powder is most all of our cooking. I prefer using fresh minced garlic if I can, but garlic powder keeps better and is used very easily.
This is my new go-to spice! It goes really well in soup or with chicken. Just frying up chicken or turkey in a pan with olive oil, the above mentioned spices, and turmeric is delicious. Plus, turmeric is SUPER healthy.
Basil can be added, again, to soups, casseroles, potatoes, eggs, even popcorn. Goes especially well with chicken, tomato, Italian dishes. Think caprese (mozzarella, tomato, olive oil, basil).
Cumin is great for mid-western dishes, like Mexican casseroles, soup (everything’s good in soup, right?), and chicken or beef. I love the taste of cumin….plus, all these spices are healthy.
I’ve added mostly savory spices, because that’s what we use more. But cinnamon is a versatile sweet or savory spice. It’s great on sweet potato, good in most sweet dishes, smoothies, even sloppy joes =)
These are just some of the best, most versatile and most used spices in our house that I love using!
